The lecture covers the fundamentals and engineering applications of materials theory. At the beginning of the module, the basic concepts and assumptions of materials theory are introduced, which are based on continuum thermodynamics. Based on this theory, approaches to different phenomena and thus different classes of material models are subsequently discussed. These include, on the one hand, elasticity and viscoelasticity. On the other hand, basic and extended concepts and approaches of plasticity theory are discussed. The exercises in this module focus on programming the models and methods discussed. The module is the basis for numerous other modules in the compulsory and elective areas.

explain the relevant field equations and the thermodynamic fundamentals of material modeling.
check material models for thermodynamic consistency (dissipation inequality).
explain the fundamentals of material modeling for elastic material behavior and implement corresponding models in terms of programming.
explain the basics of material modeling for viscous material behavior and implement corresponding models by programming.
explain the basics of material modeling for plastic material behavior and implement the corresponding models by programming.
Cycle: Summer semester
The module basically consists of a weekly lecture and a weekly exercise. The exercise will take place as a programming exercise in the CIP pool. The details about concrete times and rooms, as well as all further information, can be found in the Moodle course.
Form of examination
The examination consists of a student project with presentation and oral examination.
