The course contents as well as all further information about the course "Machine Dynamics" in winter semester 2024/25 can be accessed via the "Moodle Course".
Basically, the module follows the contents of Mechanics III, i.e. we deal with systems whose acceleration cannot be neglected. The focus is not only on the derivation of basically nonlinear ODE systems, but also on their solution and in particular on possibilities to estimate the expected solutions. For this purpose and also in general, the programming language Python will often be used, whereby the elementary code building blocks will be given. A central point is to examine and decide whether or in which cases one can "blindly" trust prefabricated solution routines. Furthermore, linearization leads us to linear ODE systems, which can be examined for phenomena such as "resonance" and "erasure" and the underlying systems can be specifically designed in this respect. In the context of model building, we will analyze, among other things, the influence of the discretization on predictions such as the natural angular frequencies. The detailed learning objectives of each learning unit are furthermore still listed in these.
Cycle: Winter semester
The module is not strictly divided into a lecture and exercise. Basically, short instructional videos (screencasts) are available, which cover the basic competence levels "knowledge" and "understanding". Compared to conventional lectures and exercises, a lot of time is saved here, which is then available for independent work on projects. This is always done under close supervision from our side. In these projects, the basic methods covered in the learning videos are applied, partly analytically by hand, partly by means of Python code to be created or also given. In addition, these projects also focus on analyzing results and evaluating mechanical model systems and/or the methods used.
