Learning objectives

One of the key challenges in engineering is to find the optimum compromise between the load-bearing capacity of a system and its cost-effectiveness and sustainability. Structures, machines or any other engineering system must therefore be able to withstand the loads and at the same time be as cost-effective and sustainable as possible to manufacture. And mechanics provides us with the tools to master this challenge. In "TM1", we will deal with this in the context of "statics", i.e. for systems that are in a static state of equilibrium and are not in motion.

Implementation

Cycle: Summer semester

The module consists of several elements:

Synchronous face-to-face sessions twice a week. Hybrid learning events in the lecture hall (and streamed via Zoom) with theory, demo and "Do it Yourself" units.
Synchronous exam preparation courses (several dates per week to choose from). Time for independent calculation under "supervision" and with support.
Asynchronous Q&A sessions on our Discord server. Questions will be answered in text channels with some delay.

Form of examination

The examination takes the form of a written exam in single-choice format. An overview of the current exam dates can be found here. All further information regarding time, processing time, permitted aids, lecture hall allocation and more can be found in the Moodle course.
