Digital engineering mechanics
The project "DTM - Digital Technical Mechanics" is part of the initiative "OERContent.nrw 2022" initiative (see also overview of projects funded at TU Dortmund University). The overarching goal of our project is to establish a new and holistic concept to improve basic education in the field of "Mechanics". In particular, this requires the creation of new and digital learning materials that optimally support the achievement of the set learning objectives. The entire concept has a modular structure so that the material used can be selected to suit the framework conditions at individual locations and depending on the individual definition of the learning objectives and the desired taxonomy levels. The project will run from 01.09.2023 to 31.08.2025.

Our work program
The learning outcomes are defined as an elementary basis, which are primarily oriented towards the contemporary requirements of modern engineering. This also includes the detailed elaboration of necessary teaching and learning activities.
Achievement of the learning objectives is ensured in particular through new project-based problems that are also highly realistic.
Interactive learning videos using H5P elements such as the "branching scenarios" are at the heart of the materials we create.
A newly developed gratification system implemented in moodle makes a significant contribution to increasing motivation so that students can work on the problems independently and during the semester.
On the one hand, this work package will develop examination tasks that can be used to test the higher taxonomy levels "Analyze", "Evaluate" and "Create" in particular. On the other hand, the prevailing framework conditions at the respective locations will be examined as well as the possibility of establishing formative examination components as a form of examination or as examination components.
Based on the current status, this work package will analyze which changes may appear necessary for reaccreditation in order to integrate the concept and materials holistically into the training and to be able to expand it. In this way, a promising continuation of the concept, including further development, is to be ensured.
In this work package, an instrument is being developed for the comprehensive evaluation of the new concept, which can be used equally at all locations.
All materials developed are continuously tested for accessibility.
